How to Remember Names & Faces
Forgetting someone's name right after they tell you is embarrassing but extremely common. The good news: it's not a memory problem — it's an attention and technique problem.
Why We Forget Names
When we meet someone new, we're often: - Thinking about what to say next - Distracted by the environment - Not really listening to their name
The name goes in one ear and out the other because we never truly encoded it in the first place.
The Fix: FACE Method
F - Focus: When someone says their name, actually listen. Repeat it back: "Nice to meet you, Sarah."
A - Associate: Connect the name to something memorable. Sarah → "Sarah" sounds like "Sahara" desert.
C - Create: Build a vivid mental image. Imagine Sarah standing in the Sahara desert.
E - Exaggerate: Make it memorable. Sarah is surfing on a sand dune in the Sahara.
Practice Makes Perfect
The more you practice this technique, the more automatic it becomes. Within a few weeks, you'll notice you're remembering far more names than before.
